What is Basal Stimulation?
Basal Stimulation is based on a more holistic approach to healthcare. Its basic principle is to create sensation using the patient’s body and includes movement, communication and perception.
Most commonly this is done by using varying physical positions, massage to stimulate breathing, relaxing baths and manual vibration of the joints. It can usually be administered.

Recognising the importance of movement stimulation in bedridden patients, all Völker healthcare beds are fitted with the patented Völker MiS® as standard, providing a care aid, integrated directly into the bed implementing the theoretical fundamentals of basal stimulation, as well as various movement concepts.
Völker MiS® is based on neuro-scientific principles. Even minimal movements on the part of the patient are detected and returned from the mattress to the body. This constant feedback leads to improved body perception and promotes the individual’s own movement and micro-circulation in the tissue. This, together with the additional pressure point reduction guarantees circulation to the skin and leads to increased comfort when sleeping or lying down. Patient motivation is improved and they also become more receptive to care. The Völker MiS® also aids pressure-ulcer prevention.
As seen in the following figures (1-2), the design of the Völker MiS® system with special butterfly springs on flexible support profiles is attached to the frame by flexible suspension units. For a mattress, we recommend the three-layer Rubex® Finess mattress which enhances the effects of the Völker MiS® system.
